The purpose of this study was to evaluate the needs of caregivers taking care of discharged tracheostomy patients. The subjects of the study are the caregivers of tracheostomy patients at a southern regional teaching hospital. SPSS 12.0 software was used to analyze the data byway of descriptive analysis. Both the need for knowledge in taking care of tracheostomy patients and managing changes in patients' conditions were both at 72.16%, exhibiting the highest proportion of needs. The percentage of the need in knowledge about prevention of infectious diseases was 31.95%. While the perceived need on the technique of taking care of impaired self-care tracheostomy patients is at 48.45%, both demonstrating the lowest proportion for caregivers. The study reveals that understanding the needs of caregivers for tracheostomy patients, teaching them about necessary instructions and helping them to understand society's resources may prove to be beneficial as well as improve quality of health care for tracheostomy patients.
