The forefather of modern poem, Zheng Chouyu, gains both a domestic and a world-wide reputation. However, the genre of his poems has been regarded as graceful and restrained, having the feature of prodigal nostalgia. Chouyu has revealed that his poems are full of the affections of humanity, which implies that Humanitarianism is the central poetic soul. This article firstly gives definition to the cultivation of humanitarian concern, exploring how the affections of humanity develop from the growing experiences of poets and finding out that empathy is the root of humanitarianism. Later in this paper, the authors examine the appearance of the affections of humanity from the aspects of wars, revolutions, boundaries, brave warriors, and humble men. Finally, this study probes into the deep inner details of sacrifice and lifesaving, universal consciousness, and repentance and sympathy, which presents the intact appearance of Chouyu's humanitarian poetic soul. Zheng Chouyu utilizing graceful and restrained poetic sentences as the shell, deeply burying aspirations and concepts inside. This article expects to complement the gap of existing comments and open up another interpretation and the thinking route of Zheng's poems through the discussion of humanitarian poetic soul.
