筆者以南勢阿美最為集中的荳蘭社，為主要研究的地區，故本文取材大多以荳蘭社為準。其次，要說明的，在人類任何社會中，都有許多種不同的娛樂活動，是難以盡舉的。本文所謂「南勢阿美族的娛樂活動」，乃就各種固有娛樂中的樂器、歌曲、舞蹈、遊戲、玩具等而言。但為便於敘述，將歌曲和舞蹈，以及遊戲和玩具，均併入一起，故可分為樂器、歌舞、遊戲三大節，玆依次分述之。

Based on the results of my survey and of years of research, I hereby submit a report concerning the recreational activities of Nenshih Ami compared with that of other natives in Taiwan, as follows:1.Musical instruments:There are a good few kinds of instruments played by the Nenshih Ami, such as the flute, piccolo, clarinet, harmonica, pipe, copper bell, hand bell and wood-leafe, etc. Those are the common instruments among the mountainese in Taiwan, only the wooden drum, iron tube and long mortar are rather special. Moreoven, the iron tube is one of ancient instruments.2.Songs and Dances:Nenshig Ami are endowed with the talent for singing and dancing, both are the old recreations of Nenshih ami. The songs may be divided into sacrifice-songs, drinking-songs, working-songs and love-songs. The dances also may be divided into drinking-dances and sacrifice-dances.Besides, gruoup-musical-dancing is a special recreational organization.Originally it was only for recreation or greeting guests, but by now it becomes commercialized and is called aboriginal ballet, acting as an attraction tourists.3.Games:Games in Nenshih Ami may be divided into adult groups and children groups. Dush, marathon race, tug of war, high jump, long iump, wrestling, etc. are contests for adults. Swimming fight, hide-and-seek, flying a kite, jackstone etc. are played by children
