　　　　　結果論或功利主義是道德哲學中非常重要且相當吸引人的主張，本文的目的是在指出其理論的缺陷，強調其根本原則（以效益的最大化決定行為的對錯）雖然簡潔，但其應用的結果卻不能和一般的道德事實相符。由於道德世界的複雜性，人們在決定行為對錯時包含各種不同的道德考量，結果論以簡化的單一原則處理這麼複雜的領域，顯然不足以充分解釋所有的道德現象。本文透過思考效益最大化原則的各個面向，論證結果論之謬誤及不足，並藉此指出其他道德考量在決定行為規範時應有其一定的地位。
