The reform of social studies program in elementary school is currently underway, and some of its major theme can be found in Dewey's thought. This researchadapted literature review method and "philosophy for education'viewpoint to synthesizeDewey's main thesis on curriculum and look at' analyze and futher examine thecurrent practice and reform of social studies program in our elementary school. It alsoprovided suggestions to improving instructional matherials, teaching strategies as wellas upgrading the professional competence of teachers in the hope that the instructionsocial studies teaching be benefited.
