Pressure ulcers of the skin are pervasive problems in health care. Risk factors of pressure ulcers include pressure, shearing force, friction, moisture, protein deficit, malnutrition, anemia, sensory loss, diabetes, impaired mobility, advanced age, decreased mental status, and incontinence. By understanding the underlying cause of pressure ulcers, assessing patients for risk factors, and intervening aggressively, we can help prevent serious skin problems.
