This paper aims to analyse the changes in the urban renewal policy for Taipei City and to assess the nature of its most recent development. It begins with an analysis of the development of urban renewal policy for Taipei City, with a view to understanding the main features of the policy, which has been led mainly by the local government for the past two decades. The paper discusses how the development of urban renewal policy have affected factors such as the commodification of land, the change of urban regime, and the general economic conditions. The combined effect of this development have resulted in the complication of social trends and the formation of new administrative structures related to urban planning. The political and spatial implications on the redevelopment of old Taipei City in with reference to these changes are discussed
