St. John’s University has founded the first journalism department in China. However, the existing research on St. John’s journalism education is far from enough. In this paper, based on the relevant files of Shanghai archives collection, the twenty-five-year history of St. John’s journalism education has been restored. Although the university founded journalism department early, as the whole university declined from prosperity, its journalism education has not been fully developed. The journalism department has partially transplanted the "Missouri journalism education model", plus the emphasis on English Teaching in the whole university, their students could conform to international standards easily. However, it tried little to adapt to Chinese Society, the degree of its localization is relatively low. We also compare it with the journalism education in Yenching University. Be active to win support from the press and educational circles in the China and the U.S., promoted the rapid rise of Yenching journalism department.
