John Donne’s poems opened a new page for the 17th-century English poetry, setting off a new wave and breaking the Renaissance literary convention. His style of poetry, new way of making comparisons, metaphysical usage of elements of the science, defamiliarization in poetic form and the expression of carpe diem theme different from previous times fully prove his individuality and modernity which go beyond some centuries. The reason for all the above innovations is inseparable from the background of society and culture and his personal experiences.
