In this study, the needs and program development of career
guidance for Open University students were explored. Data were
collected from 1109 Open University students and 117 Open
University staff, as well as 124 students from career planning
and development class. The CNSS scores were analyzed and the
results as following: (1) the needs of career guidance for Open
University students was above moderate level. (2) the needs of
career guidance for Open University students was significant
on diverse dimension (i.e., sex, age, work years, occupation
and major). (3) significant differences were found in the needs
of career guidance for S-I and P-J types students. (4) the
needs of career guidance for Open University students were
under estimated by Open University staff. (5) the needs of
executive strategies for career guidance were approved by both
Open University students and staff. (6) the needs for
professional competency of career guidance are approved by Open
University staff. (7) Participation of the staff in offering
career guidance services for students as inapproprate. (8) the
needs of career guidance for students taking "career planing
and development class" were improved significantly. Dased on
these results, an experimental program for Open University
students will be developed. The application of "The needs of
career guidance for Open University students scale" and the
direction of the future study were discussed.
