This dissertation consists of three essays on the corporate governance studies. Our papers examine the efficiency performance of insurance industry in two countries, U.S. and Taiwan. Our first essay investigates the effect of corporate governance on the efficiency performance in the U.S. property-liability insurance industry. The second essay investigates the effect of corporate governance and ownership structure on the performance in Taiwan life insurance industry. The third essay examines the relationship between corporate governance and risk taking in the U.S. life insurance industry. Base on the corporate governance in difference countries, our studies provide empirical evidences in the following aspects: the effect of ownership structure and corporate governance on firm efficiency performance, the effect of corporate governance on firm risk taking.
