Current public attitude toward the disabled persons in Taiwan was surveyed and analyzed. A Comparison with Wu and Liang's(1978) study was made to see the attitude change in 20 years in Taiwan. Two Chinese versions of the Attitude Toward Disabled Persons Scale (ATDP) were administered to 247 general education teachers, 186 special education teachers, and 174 senior high school student in Taiwan in 1999. The major findings were as the following: 1.According to the current data, in terms of attitude toward the disabled persons, males showed better attitude than females; teachers showed better attitude than students did, while there was no significant difference between general and special education teachers. 2. A comparison between subjects of Wu and Liang's (1978) study and the present ones showed that, in general, positive attitude was increased in 20 years for male teachers, no change for female teachers, and negative change for senior high school students (both boys and girls). It is suggested that, changes in Taiwan, the widespread positive attitude toward the disabled persons are yet to develop. More efforts in this regard are needed, especially in the field of public media and public education.
