This study aims to explore the characteristics of Taiwanese young women’s relationships with their male partners.Lack of indigenous (Taiwanese)female gender identity theory,a grounded theory approach was employed to do this study.In-depth interviews were adopted to collect data.Open, axial, and selective codings were adopted to analyze data.Sixteen Taiwanese young women, aged 19 to 21,were interviewed. The findings indicate that mutual empathy is the main characteristic of Taiwanese young women’s relationships with their male partners in this research. However, the findings also reveal that Taiwanese young women in this research only exercise equal power with their male partners in private, whereas they help their male partners save face in public. Discussion and implication for social work practice are addressed at the end of this paper.
