Studies reveal that strength training and physical conditioning are essential for the improvement of total capability including stability, accuracy, consistency, and coordination of the movement and facilitate the performance level on international archery competitions. To enhance the performance of elite archery athletes, this paper constructed a scientific periodization model aiming at 2003 World Archery Championship, based on the evidences and characteristics of energy metabolism, specific physical fitness, skills and tactics, psychological and physiological factors which are important to enhance the performance of archery competition. The model implies several major competitions to be held in 2003. It provides a qualitative and quantitative progressive overload, training variety and permanent means of recovery, to initiate a progressive peaking performance toward the 2003 world Archery Championship. It is expected that the training model may provide a scientific monitoring system to enhance the training quality of the archery athletes.
