Idioms were used widely in Chinese. This thesis based on the viewpoint of grammar, rhetoric and the teaching methods to study idioms. The results of research as followings: Primary from the viewpoint of grammar, there are five types of formation in Chinese idioms, which are phrases, single sentences, complex sentences, pivotal sentences and special sentences. Secondly form the viewpoint of rhetoric of instruction, four principles must be adopted, and the suitable teaching methods are finding the named words in idioms, idioms-joint, searching antithetical couplet with idioms, speaking the story of idioms, to stuff the blanks concerning idioms, making sentences with idioms, to guess the answer of the riddle about idioms.
