“Design management” is a term that originated from the “Highest Honor in Design Management,” awarded by England's Royal Society of Arts to encourage corporate design activities in 1965 through broad, reasonable, and planned process which allows the client, corporate staff, and related personnel to recognize the overall quality of the company. The term “design management” has been discussed for almost half a century. In the past, dedicated treatises or research that juxtaposed the design procedure and design management seldom appeared in the field of design. This study begins directly from the design procedure and design management to describe the following: the essence of design procedure – definition and case studies; discussion of design management – definition and procedure; new ideals of design management – people-based design approach and elaboration of the person in people-based design approach. By means of the design management procedure, five categories are identified, including design consultation, design strategy, design organization, design assessment, and design communication. At the same time, the notion of “designer hypothesis” is proposed. The different categories in design management procedure and the hypothesis of the designer are corresponded and further examined. The core principle that this research puts forward is as follows: 1.The design procedure of “Put People First” puts forward supposedly, 2.“Designer” puts forward supposedly, 3.Design to manage the procedure assumption to put forward. According to studies the suggestion that the content puts forward management's reforming to design the challenge, containment: 1.Design the competition ability; 2.Design the inspiration source; 3.Influence the factor of designing the variety; 4.Threat of designing.
