Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare serve and return of serve of world-class men's single badminton players in competitive performances after the new rules were used. Method: A total of 7 matches including the matches from the semi-finals of national tournament identified by IBF in 2006 were video taped. The videotapes were then notated frame by frame to analysis the players' serve and return of serve through descriptive statistics and Chi-square test of goodness of fit were used for analysis. Results: Serving short shots with backhand in Area I was most been used by the world-class man's single player in National and International badminton games; Return of serving straight short shots in landing spots of return of serve area 2 was most be considered first. Conclusions: This study provides evidences that after news rules were used, the competition between players become more fiercely and actively in the forecourt; the short shots were most used when serving and return of serving, and the forecourt was considered to be the priority landing spots of return of serving.
