Employment has positive effects on the physical and psychological welfares for individuals with disabilities. As it enhances the economical competence of the country and lowers the welfare dependency for those who are with disabilities, promoting employment is critical to the development of disability policy for many countries. The main purposes of this study were to investigate how personal characteristics, work environments, employment service utilization and personal social network affected the employment status and occupational welfare for individuals with disabilities. Survey was used for data collection. A total of 545 individuals with disabilities in the age of 18 to 64 living in Taichung City in 2004 were recruited in the study. Research indicated that age, educational level, disability category, health conditions, capacity of daily living activities, employment service utilization and personal social network had significant effects on the employment status. Disability level, work environment and welfare in the worksite significantly affected the occupational welfare for those who were employed. Conclusion and recommendations were made based on research findings.
