在過去二十年來觀光相關科系迅速增加，觀光教育人員將會面臨許多議題和難題。另外，由於在目前與觀光教育相關的文獻中，探討學生觀點的研究一直不多，至今有關觀光科系學生之認知與意向的調查亦很少。本文首先透過相關文獻的綜觀，討論觀光教育發展之現況；再針對大學觀光系入學新生進行調查，瞭解其選系背景的情況。此次調查對象為91學年度技職教育體系中的觀光系入學新生。經以調查研究法針對213位入學新生，使用自編結構式問卷進行調查；並與90學年度所作之調查結果進行比較。結果顯示：90學年度和91學年度進入四技觀光系就讀的學生中，高中職觀光科畢業的學生僅分別佔10.6%和8.0%。在回答有關最想唸的第一志願問題上，68.0%和63.8%%的入學新生選擇觀光系為第一志願。選讀觀光系最多的原因包括想環遊世界、認為課程有趣、想在旅行業界工作、想在旅館業界工作、想當領隊／導遊，和語言課程多。此外，升學輔導的工作在高中職階段須再加強，甄選學生的方式亦須作持續地改進。不過，基本上入學新生的背景、態度並無太大差異。本研究所提供的資訊期能對觀光教育發展有所助益。最後分別對課程發展、人力資源發展及未來研究作出建議。

Over the past 20 years tourism education programs has shown a dramatic increase. There are many critical issues and problems to be faced by the tourism educator. An overview of some of the related literature was provided as a basis for discussing the current tourism education development. There has been little research conducted to investigate students' perspective on tourism education. Moreover, relatively little research has thus far been conducted on the perceptions and intentions of those students enrolled in the tourism program. Several critical issues of tourism education development were explored. Why students choose a tourism-degree program was also investigated. Students who enrolled in the four-year undergraduate tourism program in technological and vocational education system in Taiwan during academic year 2002 were selected as the respondents. A structured questionnaire prepared by the author was completed by 213 first-year students. Comparing with the investigation during academic year 2001 the results of this study indicated that respective 10.6% and 8.0% of the respondents graduated from tourism program in vocational high school. 68.0% and 63.8% of the respondents considered tourism-degree program as the first choice to study. The main reasons were "to travel around the world", "to find the courses interesting", "like to work in the travel agency", "like to work in the hotel industry", "like to be tour leader/tour guide", and "many language courses". In addition, poor further education guidance and orientation at the secondary school level and improper selection procedure into higher educational institutions were reported. Nonetheless, the background and attitude of the respondents had no significant difference. It is hoped that this research could provide useful information to contribute to the literature on tourism education. Recommendations to address curriculum development, human resource development, and further research were presented.
