In 1969, Jinlong youth baseball team won the Little League Baseball (LLB) world series held in Williamsport, United States. The whole team entered Huaxing High School collectively thanks to Madam Chiang Kai-shek that continued baseball fever initiated by youth baseball and ushered the era of “South Meihe, North Huaxing” in the history of Taiwanese baseball. This passion and enthusiasm were related to political isolation during the 1970s in a time when baseball consolidated national sentiment. Huaxing, Ronggong and Meihe monopolized the top three for over a decade until the 1990s. The orphanage background of Huaxing, the caring of Madam Chiang Kai-shek, and the coaching style of Fang Shuiquan for nearly thirty years had profound effect on the baseball team. Huaxing not only produced outstanding baseball athletes and coaches, but also other alumni in other jobs. In addition, the Huaxing Alumni Association was created in 1983. However, the baseball program was suspended in 2007 due to lack of good results and school support. The outcome vividly demonstrated the sea-change of Taiwanese grassroots baseball.
