Over the past two decades, the Lalauran Community has been carrying out a diversity of cultural revival activities, including an emphasis on the rebuilding of its traditional meeting hall system. The Lalauran traditional youth union has an alliance relationship with other youth unions from different tribal communities and is connected to indigenous social issues and to a strong developmental force in eastern Taiwan. The Lalauran Community has gradually reclaimed its unique features and traditions such as the clothing and rituals of the traditional youth union. One such ritual is the installation of a new leader held every three years. No matter from the perspective of process, form, meaning, symbolism, interpretation or outcome, etc., there is much reciprocal dialogue that can be carried out in relation to the theories of ritual, performance and cultural identity in the pursuit of a better understanding of "the distinctive Paiwan culture" of Lalauran. The aim of this study is to analyze, from the relevant perspectives, the fifth Lalauran traditional youth union leadership installation ritual which took place in 2011. It is expected that the results of this study will be a valuable reference for gaining a deep understanding of the cultural connotations that have been shaped within this community and its traditional youth union.
