Cheng Shao (□□) is a set phrase in the inscriptions on bronze vessels in the Western Zhou. Although □ is not preserved in lexicon, □ is preserved in ”Shuo Wen Jie Zi” (《說文解字》). There are two traditional viewpoints about the pronunciation of □, one pronounces it as Zhou (舟), the other as he (貉). In this study, according to □□, the inscriptions on Chen Hou In Qi Dui (〈陳侯因□敦〉), pronunciation of □□ could be Cheng Shao (承紹). Both Cheng (□) and Shao (□) means to inherit in the set phrase.
