Since 2008, the tense between the Vietnamese government and main religious organizations have disillusioned the optimistic view of the renaissance of Vietnamese religions after Doi Moi. Before answering the current situation, we need to make sense of the relationship between religions and politics through the modern Vietnamese history. The main idea of this article is to figure out the relation between politics and religions in modern Vietnam by reviewing its history. The conclusion fell upon the discovery that the politics could not only determine a religion's autonomy, capability of participating in politics and the scope of its contribution into revolutions or public affairs, but also the relation of religion and itself.
