Abstract: ＂Benevolence＂ as an important part of Confucianism, has been interpreted as a standard of value of moral. This research tries to reveal ＂benevolence＂ as a ＂social consensus state＂ and then deprive the moral value orientation from the original ＂benevolence＂ through the discussion of the origin and relation of ＂rites＂ and ＂benevolence＂ in The Analects of Confucius
