　　　　　This article investigates the paradigm shift in the stlulies of
informationneeds and uses. Three criteria are applied to compare the differences
between traditional paradigm and alternative paradigm: the definition of information,
the underlying assumptions, and their different research appreaches. This
investigation intents to advocate a new thinking in libraryand information field and a
new approach in the research of information needsand uses.
