The Nationalist Party and the related government departments usually held a greeting for the board members of various types of business associations during the period of Chinese New Year festival. This informal annual gathering, however, became an important tribune since the beginning of 1970s. Through this gahtering, business leaders could present their written and oral proposals to the party and governmental officials. By means of the "open coding" mehtod, this study sorts out 199 interest demands from the 102 proposals initiated in the 1972 gathering in the process of categorizing and analyzing these 199 demands and the context of the motions, we can see the major content of interest demands presented by business leaders and the major type of conflicts between the government and business groups as well as among business groups themselves. Accordingly, it reveals to us the nature and function of business associations in Taiwan under the specific political and economic circumstance of 1970s.
