The purpose of this study was to analysis the current situation of elementary school library, automated systems and the understanding of school librarians with automation. The population for this study is elementary school librarians under the supervision of Taichung Teachers College. Major findings include the following: (1) 40 schools form 516 elementary schools have library automated systems. The automated systems were designed by private computer companies, vendors, and school teachers. 39 schools have online catalog, 34 have circulation syste, 23 have OPACs and 10 have acquisitions system; (2) over 70% school librarians have taken computer classes, read computer books or periodicals and used computer; (3) 52% of school librarians know the potential of automated assistance; 95% of school librarians have never participated the conference of automation; and (4) The relationship between the training and attitude of library automated systems was found through t-test. School librarians with more experience and knowledge in computer and automated systems has more positive attitude to library automation. According to the findings, the author offered some suggesions: (1) school library organization, (2) collection development, (3) elementary school library automation, (4) school librarian's training program, and (5) school library net.
