本文的目的在於探討國語單位詞的語法結構。我們認為單位詞可分為兩類：一為 可數單位詞，一為物質單位詞（亦即物化詞），各有不同的結構。此兩者互異的語法行為正 可以其不同的語法結構來解釋。本文的主要結論可歸納如下：漢語可數名詞與物質名詞須在 單位詞的層次區分開來。這種現象有別於印歐語系的語言，其可數與物質名詞的區辨是在名 詞層次，而非單位詞的層次。

　　　　　In this paper, we investigate the grammar of constructions involving classifiers in Mandarin Chinese. We argue that there are two types of classifiers, count-classifiers and mass-classifiers (massifiers), both involving their own structure. They display different grammatical behavior, which can be explained in terms of their different grammatical structure. One of our conclusions is that in Chinese, the difference between mass nouns and count nouns is grammatically reflected at the level of the classifier (contrasting with Indo-European languages, where you find count-mass distinctions reflected at the level of the noun).
