The purposes of this study were to investigate the placement of special Education in Taiwan during past 10 years, and provide direction of administrative policy for government. Data of special Education and Rgular Education were used "Statistic of Education in ROC" "and Indication of Education Statistic in ROC" from 1989 to 1998. Four dimension were analysized: area、 classfication、phase、management. Data were analyzed by frequence、percentage、 one-way ANOVA and diagram graph. Thd major results of the study were as follows: 1. For rate of placement it was found that the gifted significantly higher than the handicapped and resource room, and city of Taipei and Kaohsiung were higher than Taiwan province. 2. For rate of special class it was found that mental retardation were higher than the others, and city of Taipei were higher than Kaohsiung and Taiwan province. 3. for rate of installation for resource room it was found secondary school higher than elementory school. 4. Most of gifted classes were intellectual giftedness, for talanted that the least were dancing class for elementory and gymnastic class for secondary. 5. Most of special school were mental retardation, and most of students were high school. 6. The handicapped students of the private college were significantly more than the public college, of which students of physical handicap were more than others.
