In order to respond to the challenge and impact from global trends in sustainable development and from the business model innovation on the food and agriculture industries in Taiwan, a framework for Taiwan’s social enterprise business model innovation is inevitably required. As the focus of circular economy has been mainly on the manufacturing industry, interdisciplinary integration from circular economy perspectives remains relatively underexplored. This study, in order to facilitate Taiwan’s social enterprise business model innovation, examines the food and agriculture social enterprises in Taiwan from circular economy perspectives and develops new models within the business model framework. Both qualitative and quantitative research methods are used and integrated in the study, including literature review, case study, content analysis, static model analysis, business model, and analytic hierarchy process. Two major findings of the present study are:
1. In the primary dimension of Taiwan’s food and agriculture social enterprise business model innovation, the ‘key activities’ dimension assumes more significance than the other dimensions
2. In the sub-dimension of Taiwan’s food and agriculture social enterprise business model innovation, the dimensions that assume more significance include “innovative agriculture,” “eco-friendly food and agriculture technology,” “food and agriculture social enterprises,” “matchmaking platforms,” “target customer base,” “online marketing channels,” “industrial clusters,” “innovative hardware design,” and “value increase.”
