  發展遲緩幼兒的早期療育中,親職教育的實施是最重要、最迫切也是最有效的,可協助幼兒的成長,因為父母比專業人員陪伴接子個體時間長,所以影響力也很大。親職教育理念之演進,促進親職教育的推行而增進家長的教養知能,反應於其對幼兒各方面能力的增長。   提出親職教育的功能和國外之研究成效:1.Williamson 在澳大利亞進行之質的實驗研究,設計「父母為孩子教師」的親職教育計畫Parents as Teachers of Children Program),簡稱PATCH。2.Cheney,Manning 及Upham在英國新罕布夏郡(New Hampshire)實施學校與社區中,情緒和行為障礙的孩子改進計畫中的親職教育方案。3.美國Orlans,Mertens,Lehrer及Olson對聽障或聽力困難幼童的父母支持服務之研究。三研究結果均指出發展遲緩幼兒之家長,參加親職教育方案的參與率越高,對發展遲緩幼兒之療育效果也越高。
