土壤地形學結合土壤學和地學的理論與方法,來解釋從單一土壤學或地形學中所無法解決的問題。而在河階地形的研究上,定年物全的缺乏常對研究過程和結果造成限制,從國外的相關研究顯示,階地土壤的性質可反應時間演進的過程,而土壤形態是其中一種簡單而於實行的方法,並且土壤態可以被量化為土壤化育指數,將質性的描述轉換為數值,用來區分土壤化育程度,並應用在地面的對比上。本研究分別採取竹出(CS-1, CS-2)、觸口(TL-1, TL-4)臺地等區共四個階土壤樣體,配合八卦臺地南部階地的土壤資料,計算個階地樣體的化育指數(HI和WPDI),加上野外的察,則可將各階地土壤與階地定出生成的先後次序:I(PK-1)、 II(PK-2)、 III(PK-3)、 IV(PK-4, CS-1, TL-1)、 V(PK-5, CS-2)、 VI(PK-6) 與 VII(TL-4);並進一步結合過去的研究成果與相關的定年資料,則可將CS-1、CS-2、TL-4的土壤劃分為極育土綱,而TL-4則應為弱育土綱,並推論本研究區內的土壤化育成極育土應需要30ka以上的時間,且氧化物土的生成應老於90ka。
Soil development indices (SDIs), such as the horizon index (HI), profile development index (PDI), weight-PDI (WPDI), were proposed the quantify the soil qualities and to construct soil chronosequence, relative dating, and the correlation to varied terraces. The HI and WPDI of pedons of terraces along the Choushui river, designated as CS-1, CS-2, TL-1, TL-4 AND PK-1-PK-6, were calculated. The profiles morphologies and quantified values of all pedons suggest a chronological order of I(PK-1), II(PK-2), III(PK-3), IV(PK-4, CS-1, TL-1), V(PK-5, CS-2), VI(PK-6) and VII(TL-4) for the terrace correlation. Most pedons could be classified as Ultisol, except that Oxisol and Inceptisol are allocated to PK-1 and PK-6 and TL-4 respectively. Therefore, a soil chronosequence for soils on the terrace in the study area could be constructed from Inceptisol to Ultisol to Oxisol. The age of the solil on oldest terraces (Oxisol) is supposed to be older than 90ka; Ultisol might not be younger than 30 ka and Incepital should be younger than 30 ka. The result presents a good application of the pedologic degrees to correlate varied terraces in the middle-Choushui river basin area by HI and WPDI.
