Currently, Taiwan’s aged population nears 2.4 million (10.41%). In 2025, Taiwan will have a super-aged population. In response to an ageing population, public libraries in Taiwan should offer special programs and events especially tailored for the 55+ audience. In recent years, the Taipei Public Library has devoted much effort to promoting lifelong learning for the elderly. These include books by mail, audiobooks, large print collection, lectures, films, club activities, play card games and performances that reflect the wide interests of today's seniors. In addition to the above-said programs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Taipei Public Library in 2008 set up 3 Learning Resources Centers for the Elderly in an attempt to provide aged people with easily accessible learning resources.
