For large sized countries, aerial transportation is of great importance. China began to set up aerial transportation businesses since the early republican years. The warlords put an effort into establishing an air force. After the unification in 1928, the Chinese Government started to set up firms for cargo services. In 1919, the first board in charge of aero affairs was established in Beijing. Two years later, this board was renamed the General Office of Aviation. 1928, the Bureau for Business Aviation was set up in the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. From the second half of the 20th century, international aviation took off. The Republican Government, which had by that time moved from China to Taiwan, took note of this trend and started to invest in aviation. The development of the aviation business reflects the economic development over the last few decades.
