The year 2012 was a crucial year for digital convergence and media integration in Taiwan. However, two events changed the Taiwanese media landscape: the anti-media monopoly protest on the 1 September, 2012, and the sale of Next Media. These two events, which appealed to those who oppose media monopolies and support journalistic autonomy, underlined the difficulties and problems faced during the media integration stage in Taiwan. In the meantime, the National Communications Commission (NCC)issued a new draft rule as a response to the protesters' challenge to its authority. This article reviews the changes in the Taiwanese media landscape in 2012 and offers reflections on the communications field.
