The concept of utilizing original records as the bases for evaluating the acquisition, exhibition, curation or preservation of objects did not seem to draw much attention in Taiwan’s public museums. Therefore this study aims to contribute to follow-up discussions by gathering, reviewing and analyzing the relevant literature. First, this article will attempt to elucidate the meaningful content, issues and coverage within original object records in museum management. Second, specific practices of Taiwan’s public museums will be presented as related examples whose categorization, designation, display, research as well as collection value have been influenced by traceability establishment and scientific examination of original object records. Third, the presentation and interpretation of “Bo'ai Ding”, a memorial cauldron installed in the National Palace Museum, will be introduced and investigated as the primary subject matter. And conclusively, through cross comparison of cases and exploration of literature reviews, the main expectation is to enhance awareness about the importance of original object records in Taiwan’s public museums.
