A community is formed because of the interaction of man and man, man and nature, and man and the supernatural; it is the center of human life and reproduction, and its contents include the housing behavior of humankind and the spatial distribution and manner of the housing environment, specific communities, and so forth. “The Cultural Heritage Preservation Act" refers to 'community' as having historical character or constructions with regional characteristics and their associated facilities including aboriginal villages, Holland era neighborhoods, Han Chinese hamlets, residences of Westerners at the end of the Qing dynasty, immigrant villages during the Japanese administration times, modern dormitories, military dependents' villages, etc. Tamsui's Chongjian Street started in the last years of Qianlong's reign (1735-1796) of the Qing dynasty and gradually formed into a community. This street community's topography, geomorphology, religious beliefs, traditional customs, and inhabitants' professions all have their cultural characteristics. Even though nowadays the street has been widened and the community's prosperity has declined, yet when you pause while walking there, it still can let your spirit experience deep feelings and daydreams.
