Serving was one of the six fundamental skills of volleyball. Serving was a closed motor skill that was active and initiative. It would not be interfered by teammates, opponents, or other skills and it was one of the important skills to score. Purpose: The aim of this dissertation was to provide reference to trainers and trainee to understand the functionality of the short serve. Medhods: The study used literature research to discuss and analyze the information. Results: The data showed that high-angle serving can contain opponents when middle blockers in zone 2, 4. On the other hand, the flat trajectory serving had a faster serving speed which can raise the chance to score, especially when the opponents were in deep formation. Serving in middle position was able to cause misunderstanding between main passers in zone1, 5 and contained your opponents. In fact, when the team was in a seesaw battle during the game, every coach may consider short serving strategy. Conclusion: Therefore, when the crunch came, every coach must make the decision to take the lead. If the short serve was effective during the first to the fourth set, logically, it would also be effective in the fifth set. As the result, don’t be afraid to use short serving strategy.
