Through the utilization ofinformation technology. Internetnowadays has
become a real "VirtualLibrary" . On contrast to a traditionallibrary scenario, many
tasks such asinformation collection and serviceshave been gradually replaced by
au-tomatic computer processing in thishuge virtual library. In this computer-oriented
environment, the processingof resource collection and organizationis rather different
from that of atraditional library which is basicallymanual-oriented. As the resources
inthe Internet have been grown so fastand enormously, to prevent informa-tion
overflow and to provide an ef-fective way of control has become amajor research
issue. Recently there are many researches on the resourcecollection and organization
beini; discussed extensively, especially on theconstruction of Internet resource catalog
(yellow page) and design of automatic resource collection. As the research on this
topic is quite new andchanging rapidly, there is few- literature being found so far.
Therefore, this article attempts to investigate andgive analytical comparisons of
someimportant Internet resource collc'ctionand organization methods,
especiallyresource catalog and automatic resource collection methods. The role ofa
Library in such an environment willalso be discussed.
