本文探討日治時代台灣農家儲蓄傾向，並分析經濟、人口、社會因素如 何影響農家的儲蓄行為，以便有助於了解當時經濟的發展。利用台灣總督府殖產 局的調查資料，本文求得1918-1934生間農家的平均儲蓄率高達18，而在1918-1937 年間。米作農家的平均儲蓄率也達到14,與戰後1976年的儲蓄率比較，戰前的水準 並不算低，從進一步的實證分析，我們得到三個主要結果:(1)可支配戶得及依類 人口對農家儲蓄水準具有顯著的正向影響。(2)農家擁有的土地面積以及家庭人口 數對儲蓄額具有顯著的負向影響。(3)在其他條件不變的情況下，米作農家的儲蓄 額顯著地低於蔗作農家;自耕農或半自耕農之儲蓄額高於佃農。

　　　　　This paper focuses on the savings behavior of Taiwan's farm households in theJapanese Colonial Period. We find that APS of farm households during the period of 1918-1934 was 18, while APS of rice farmers in 191 S-1937 was 14.Compared with APS in 1976, these races are not low. As for rhe determinants offarm households' savings, we obtain three main empirical results. (1) Disposableincome was the most important and significant determinant of saving, while thearea of land occupied by farmers had a negative and significant effect on saving,ceteris paribus. (2) The family size had negative impact on saving. (3) Otherthings being equal, the savings level of rice farmers was significantly less thanthat of sugar cane farmers, and the savings level of owner-cultivators or semiowner@cultivators was higher than chat of tenants'.
