　　　　　目的：本文的目的在於了解國人總膽固醇濃度與數種主要精神疾病的關係。方法 ：回溯南部某醫學中心精神科急性病房自 84 年 1 月 1 日至 84 年 12 月 31 日之住院病 歷，其中有記錄個案的基本資料、入院時的總膽固醇濃度及精神科 DSM-IIIR 的診斷者。其 結果並與當時的國民健康調查資料相比較。 結果：共有 213 個案有符合要求。其平均年齡 為 34.9 ± 1.0 歲，平均總膽固醇濃度為 169.2 ± 37.4mg/dl。研究的結果顯示，診斷為 精神分裂症， 躁症，重憂鬱症，藥物依賴及 B �擗H格疾患的精神疾病患者其平均總膽固醇 濃度較國民健康調查資料為低，且有達到統計上顯著的意義， 前三者之 p 值皆小於 0.001 ；而後兩者其 p 值皆小於 0.05。結論：國人患有精神疾病者其總膽固醇濃度較一般人為低 的趨勢與國外的一些研究是一致的。
　　　　　Objective: This study sought to investigate the total serum cholesterol levels in Taiwanese patients with major psychiatric diseases. Methods: The medical records of 397 psychiatric inpatients admitted to the acute ward from January 1, 1995 to December 31, 1995 were reviewed. The total serum cholesterol levels at admission were compared with the average values from the healthy population. Results: A total of 213 psychiatric inpatients had data on total serum cholesterol. The mean age of these patients was 34.9 ± 1.0 years. The mean total serum cholesterol level was 169.2 ± 6mg/dl. Total serum cholesterol was significantly lower in patients of schizophrenia (p<0.001), mania (p<0.001), major depression (p<0.001), drug dependence (p<0.05) and cluster B personality disorder (p<0.05) compared to the values for the healthy individuals. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that behaviors associated with major psychiatric illnesses may tend to promote lower total serum cholesterol levels.
