長期以往生涯諮商員多採用獨尊理性的規範性理想模式來協助人們經營生涯，本研究旨在採用描述性取向探討門外漢─大學生的生涯觀，以和傳統的學術觀點相對照，並採用Holland類型檢視大學生生涯觀的多樣性。 研究者根據先前兩次試驗性研究所取得的26份生涯觀論述資料，形成「生涯觀問卷」含三十八題兩極陳述的六點量尺題項，分別探討生涯規劃方法(生存之道、人境互動之道、決策型態、實現原則、成功策略、不確定性的因應、挫折的因應)與生涯規劃方向(生命意義導向、觀照角度、生涯目標)。 經由分層叢集目的取樣，計有八所學校824名大學生有效填寫問卷，描述統計與多變項變異數分析顯示：大學生生涯觀的整體傾向較規範性觀點更傾向於折衷不同方法並兼顧多元價值，顯示大學生並不完全否定理性的價值，只是放棄極端地獨尊理性；各類型在生涯觀上的確有顯著差異，其中，傳統型和其他類型的差異最多，尤其不同於企業型和藝術型；更值得注意的是，各類型生涯觀所反映的差異的確與Holland類型論的類型描述相呼應，顯示生涯興趣和生涯觀之間有所關聯；不過，Holland類型與生涯觀的理性導向之間似乎沒有關聯。

Rationality has long been the tradition in career literature. This study was intended to survey laymen's career view, as a comparison to the prescriptive scholastic view. Holland's typology was applied to further examine the diversity of college students' career view. Data were col1ected from 824 undergraduate students in 8 Taiwanese universities sampled via clustering sampling with stratification. Each subject completed the researcher-constructed questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of thirty-eight 6-point Likert type items that were derived from the content analyses of career view papers written by 12 graduate students and 14 undergraduate students. The items explored both career planning method (survival policy, interaction policy, decision-making style, actualization principle, actualization strategy, coping with uncertainty, coping with frustration) and career planning direction (origins of life meanings, retrospective approach, and career goal orientation). Descriptive statistics and multivariate ANOVA revealed that college students' career view was more moderate and divergent than the prescriptive scholastic view. Differences on career view among six Holland types were found. The Conventional was quite different from the other types, while the Artistic and Enterprising were the most opposite types to the Conventional. The pattern of the type differences was in congruence with the Holland typology, which might indicate the association between vocational interest and career view. There was no association found between Holland's typology and the preference toward rationality.
