This essay is called “The study of compare the figures of seal-characters in Chin and Hang dynasties”. The goal is wanted to compare and observe the seal-characters written on all kinds of materials. By the methods to distinguish the differences of the seal-characters in Chin and Hang dynasties and regulate the characteristics and rules.
The Chapter One is introductions. To explain the motive, goals, scope, methods of this essay and the related important writings. Finally, to define some nouns that usually be used in this essay.
Chapter Two introduce Hsu Shen and “Shuo Wen Jie Zih”(the short form of the name is “Shuo Wen”). First, simply introduce his whole life, officials and the goals of wrote “Shuo Wen”. Then narrate the spread and characteristics of all kinds of editions of “Shuo Wen” that we can see now and present the editions that be used in this essay. Third, simply introduce the figures of seal-characters in those editions, compare and indicate their characteristics, advantages and disadvantages.
Chapter Three to Chapter Six discuss the figures of seal-characters in Chin and Hang dynasties by all kinds of subjects. Because the figures of seal-characters have their age characters on gravestones, copperwares and tiles, so each of them take possession of one chapter, each chapter is divided to three parts. Because of the difficult in divide ages in the figures of seal-characters of currency, seals and pottery, so each of them take possession of one sections. The section of the seals includes the figures of seal-characters made by mud and the section of the pottery includes bricks, earthenware and lacquer wares. The distinguish and discuss is according to their materials. The main discuss objects of the figures of seal-characters are gravestones, copperwares, tiles, currency, seals(includes the figures of seal-characters made by mud) and pottery(includes bricks, earthenware and lacquer wares). By the discuss of the figures of seal-characters written on slips of bamboo, drapery and bones, the figures of the Chinese words are not seal-characters. Despite of the words are not seal-characters, I still did some introductions and put them at the final subjects.
Chapter Seven is generalizations. By the discuss of the subjects, the characteristics and rules between to the seal-characters in Chin and Hang dynasties is very obvious. In this chapter I figure out the explanations are not enough at this part the past. Then I present the rules that I generalized. I hope these explanations can make readers understand the differences between to the seal-characters in Chin and Hang dynasties.
Chapter Eight is conclusions. To combined the discuss from Chapter One to Seven and generalized to four important points. The four important points are the conclusions of this essay.
