Philosophy of education is one of the educational theory functions. The purpose of this paper is to outline and review the development of educational philosophy in Taiwan. the author defines those scholars who had ever taught in university since 1950s as the first generation, those who had been the students of the first generation scholars and got their Ph.D. and taught in university since 1970s as the second generation, those who had been the students of the second generation scholars and got their Ph.D. and taught in university since 1990s as the third generation. Because the first generation scholars earned their academic degree both in America and Europe, the development of educational philosophy reflected the profound tradition of and Continental philosophy English speaking world since post-war in Taiwan. besides the further studies of the two approaches, the second generation scholars still established the discipline of educational philosophy a divine position. It is worth to appreciate that some scholars of the third generation have developed their personal educational ideals and new research paradigms of educational philosophy. The author provides some suggestions according to the content of educational philosophy as discipline and the development of educational philosophy as an academic institute. The author sincerely hopes we, the third generation scholars in Taiwan, could reestablish the position of educational philosophy which has been glorious in western educational history from Plato to Dewey.
