Guo-dian-ru-jian (Confucian bamboo manufscripots of Guo-dian) were important Confucian academic works between Confucius and Mencius. Among them, the exposition for human nature is the natural human nature theory that advocates that the instinct a human being has with his/her birth is the human nature. The content is the natural physiology that is fulfilled on the aspect of experience. This kind of “human nature” just explains the origin of human behaviors; however, the reasons why there are all kinds of behaviors are because of “mind.” This kind of “mind” has plasticity, and it can be aroused, induced, tempered/encouraged, and regulated to accomplish the virtue Confucius’ ideal was to make this world better. Therefore, his theories, regardless of the administrative methods, the ideals of life, or the practice of morality are all fulfilled on the aspect of experience. The temperament theory of Ru-jian (an abbreviation of Guodian-ru-jian) accords with the Confucian spirit on “the historical significance” and “the essential meaning.” They all belong to a kind of “practical reason.” Hence, under “the reliability” and “the validity” of the theory, Guo-dian-ru-jian have the value of judging standard on Confucianism. Consequently, “the dispute of Han and Song” should be solved when interpreting Mencius’ temperament theory, because what Ru-jian stand for is the natural human nature theory.
