The 2005 Assessment of Student Achievement has been conducted on May 26th, 2005 in 25 counties around Taiwan. It randomly sampled sixth-grade students to take Chinese, English, and math assessment. There were 464 schools, 15983 students that received the assessment. Besides taking the assessment, students also filled out questionnaires. The questionnaires aimed to collect data related to achievement assessment including student files. The result of the assessment after being analyzed will be announced. National Academy for Educational Research Preparatory Office will put a set of assessment questions of Chinese, English, and math on the Internet. Moreover, under the conditions of not violating students' privacy and avoiding inappropriate comparison, the Preparatory Office also plans to give out data for education researchers. Establishing the database is not our ultimate aim. To do well in the basic work of establishing the database will benefit educational research. Long-termly and widely collecting data will help shape a clear picture of Taiwan's education status quo and vision, and help make grand and long-range educational policies.
