This study aims to help the Department of Hospital and Health Care Administration(HHCA) students planning their study and career earlier in the school. We investigated the graduating students’ intentions of furthering study and employment in the department of HHCA in an institute of sciences and technology in 2002. A total of 304 questionnaires were issued to the subjects, and 244 of them were collected. The respondent rate was 80.3%. The findings of the study were as follows: In terms of time difference, 44.7% of the respondents decided to go further study, but 47.1% was employed. In terms of program difference, five-year program respondents showed their strongest intentions to further study, but four-year college respondents intended to be employed strongly. The result of difference between the respondent intentions and other variables such as their programs, majors, recommended qualification, expected higher education, social economics, parent anticipations, and the influence from teachers and classmates, was significant (P<.05). In terms of intention of further study(IOFS)group, 58% of them planned to do in the same field. The related information was collected from cram schools. The reasons of furthering study were the effect of diploma, promotion, and unemployment respectively. In terms of intention of employment (IOE) group, only 12% of them would do the jobs in the related field. They got information from magazines and websites. The reasons of being employed were the importance of working experience, self-training, and parent expectations. The suggestions of the study include stopping recruiting five-year program students and making a career planning as early as possible.
