本研究旨在探討喪子（女）父母，在死亡事件發生後，對生命意義不同的體驗與領悟之主觀經驗，採取質性研究法中的深度訪談蒐集資料，透過受訪者的觀點了解父母面對子女的死亡時，如何從對生命的無望，到重新找到生命的意義。本研究共訪談了六位喪子（女）父母（二男四女），由資料分析後發現：一、喪子女父母在面對子女死亡事件的敘說。二、喪子女父母在子女死亡後才開始探討或碰觸死亡問題。三、喪子女父母的人生觀會因為子女死亡而改變。四、在子女死亡前，父母親的生活目標多以工作賺錢為目的；面對子女死亡事件，這些父母親在經歷喪慟之後，生活目標開始轉向利他服務。五、宗教信仰、重新詮釋子女的死亡及利他服務是喪子女父母重建生命意義的重要因素。
