荀子一直將「禮」作為治國思想來闡發，其言政治即禮治。其政治哲學乃承外王之業、以禮治國；治國之道在隆禮敬士、尚賢使能、平政愛民、慶賞刑罰、富國富民。至於治國根基則是尊君與法後王。

The central aspect political philosophy in xunzis work was the great emphasis on courtesy. In order to govern and achieve a strong state, a king must follow in sages footstep, follow rigid standards through the application of courtesy to his country. Xunzi believed that a king could rule efficiently if he treats is subordinates and people equally without having any preferential treatment. Furthermore, if he takes good care of his people, and in return, his people will respond with the loyalty and follow a sage of the best government.
