The athletic training facility on campus has become an important mechanism for preventing participants from injuries or when they are injured the proper rehabilitations are taken. However, the concept of establishing, planning, and managing athletic training facility in Taiwan is still in its early stages and lacks of clear guidelines and standard. Given the important role that athletic training facility plays in sports, the purpose of this study is to investigate the conditions of athletic training facilities in universities and colleges in the United States and to compare their similarities and differences. The results of this study may offer the valuable guidelines for the planning and establishment of its own athletic training room and facility in Taiwan. In this study, ten universities in the United States were selected and investigated. Information regarding each university's athletic training facility is retrieved from the websites of the ten universities selected for the purposes of this study. The findings of this study reveal, firstly, the accessibility is the first consideration when deciding on the location of the athletic training room. In this regard, the design concepts of "centrality" and "satellite" are used to place the facility in an area of convenience. Secondly, in designing the room, the set up for diagnostic treatment, taping, and rehabilitating take their priorities, whereas for office, record keeping, and physician's consulting room are the second consideration depending on the needs and the availability of the space. Placement of equipment and machines are based mainly on their function and space. And lastly, schools with small spacing and less financial support allocated for the facility are likely to alter the service and equipment according to different sports seasons. This study provides a useful reference to be considered for other schools.
